Story

Setting: 1717 E. Fourth St.,
Recorded by: Jean Wissinger on 2012/05/20

I lived at 1717 for a couple of years. Across the street stood a 2-story duplex (which has since burned down - I believe in the early 70's) which was rented out to four families. I remember everyone on their porches talking to all of their neighbors in the evening during pleasant weather. There were two corner stores. The Green's store is still open but the one on Ringgold and 4th burned down but I remember getting penny candy there after school. Both stores had butchers which was nice for everyone. We rarely went to Krogers on 5th at all. Too bad we don't have that kind of neighborhood closeness anymore.
